John T. Freeman was born in London 1958 and studied painting at Bath Academy of Art (Corsham) 1976-77 and then at Chelsea School of Art 1977-80.

Since leaving college, whilst continuing to paint, he has developed a particular interest in etching. Examples of his work can be seen in the critically acclaimed books, “I London” and "Descent to Byworth" and the soon to be published “Paris Workings”. His etchings are in the collections of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and the Glynn Vivian Museum in Swansea.

He is currently working on his next book of text and etchings ' Between the Gate of the Sun and the Gate of the Moon : Reflections on Alexandria'

His book 'Portrait Drawing' published by the Crowood Press is available at leading bookshops.

He has taught as a freelance tutor and lecturer in several institutions, including Hurtwood House, the Prince of Wales Drawing School , the Tate Gallery and currently at West Dean College.
